Each offers a unique experience, catering to every skier’s style and skill level. As a local, I’m stoked to share my personal insights and favorite spots within each of these fantastic ski areas.

Corviglia: The Crown Jewel

Conveniently accessible from St. Moritz Dorf, St. Moritz Bad, and Celerina, Corviglia is a hub of activity.

Getting There:

  • By bus: Aim for St. Moritz Schulhausplatz and take a quick 100-meter walk upstairs – avoid the crowds at 10:00a.m it’s the fastest way to reach the heart of the action, especially if you’re coming from Samedan.
  • By car: Park at Celerina or St. Moritz Signalbahn to avoid the pricey parking in St. Moritz Dorf.

Good to know: The whole ski area and the main station share the name “Corviglia.” If someone tells you to meet at Corviglia, they likely mean the main station.

It’s ideal from February to April when the snow is prime and the sun shines a bit warmer.

Getting There:

  • By Bus: Embrace the excellent and safe Swiss public transport and hop on the bus – it’s included in your ski pass! There is a bus every 10 minutes. Take the advantage to ski the gorgeous Hahnensee slope back to St. Moritz.
  • By Car: If you’re driving, head to Surlej in 10minutes or to Furtschellas in about 15 minutes from St. Moritz.

Right Place, Right Time: Rent your skis and boots at the ski area where you plan to spend most of your time. Trust me, lugging gear across the valley is a major buzzkill.

Invest in Comfort or Performance: Don’t skimp on boots! Ill-fitting boots can ruin your entire experience. Head to Skiservice Corvatsch. They have 13 convenient locations across St. Moritz, offer quality gear, and allow you to swap boots on the mountain if needed. No more painful and time wasting walks back to the valley! Good to know: Be aware when you book online deals. Sometimes there are furter away even in the other ski area. Skiservice Corvatsch has more stors at Corviglia than at Corvatsch – i know its a little confusing.

Getting Around: Mastering the Bus System

St. Moritz boasts an excellent bus network that’s both convenient and free with your ski pass. Here are a few tips to help you navigate like a local:

  • Know the Routes: Familiarize yourself with the bus routes and schedules before you arrive. The main lines connect St. Moritz Dorf, St. Moritz Bad, Celerina, and the various ski areas. You can find timetables and maps at the bus stops or online.
  • Plan Your Connections: If you’re heading to a specific ski area, check which bus lines serve that location. Some areas, like Diavolezza, might require a transfer.
  • Be on Time: Swiss buses are known for their punctuality, so be at the stop a few minutes early. Exept Christmas New Year its a total mess.

Insider Tip: The bus stop at St. Moritz Schulhausplatz is a central hub, with connections to most ski areas. It’s also a short walk from the Corviglia funicular, making it a convenient starting point for your day on the slopes.

Fantastic Slopes: Editor’s Picks

Alright, let’s dive into the good stuff – the slopes! Here are a few of my personal favorites that’ll leave you grinning from ear to ear:

Corviglia:

  • First Tracks on a Pristine Canvas at Trais Fluors

Picture this: a crisp morning, the sun painting the sky with vibrant hues, and you’re the first one to carve tracks down a perfectly groomed black run. It’s pure bliss! To experience this magic, catch the first funicular to Corviglia at 7:45 am and head straight to Marguns (slope no. 14). The Trais Flours ski lift opens at 8:00 am, giving you first dibs on the corduroy. If you’re coming from Celerina, be at the gondola by 7:35 am to ensure you’re among the first to reach Marguns.

  • Fuorcla Grischa to Celerina: 1200 Vertical Meters of Pure Adrenaline

This thrilling black run, starting at a breathtaking 2964m, plunges all the way down to Celerina. Picture yourself on giant slalom skis, the wind whipping past as you carve long, sweeping turns. You’ll accelerate through compressions, navigate narrow sections, all while soaking in the stunning alpine scenery. The adrenaline will be pumping, but don’t forget to slow at the mid-mountain restaurant before tackling the final leg all the way though narrow chicanes and a steep U-shaped couloir. Slow down early enough, there is the kids ski area – be careful and take it easy!

Insider Tip: Hit Fuorcla Grischa around 11:00 am to avoid crowds and enjoy optimal snow conditions. If you’re looking for a slightly gentler option, try the red slope that winds its way down below the imposing Piz Nair.
